Pat and I talked with a farming neighbor yesterday who remembered planting a field by St Patricks day in 1940. He didn't actually do that planting, his father did and they recorded it on the drill.
Stan says his earliest recollection is Mar 21 and that was in 1960. He planted Grandpa Bill Luedtke's field with Alvin Luedtke on that date as Grandpa Bill was in bed with rheumatism.
Stan also says it was common for farmers to record planting dates on a piece of paper inside the box on the drill. It is fun to hear these farm stories.
Today's picture is Pat in DC outside the Department of Justice building. He is standing next to his favorite lighting fixture. That thing with the four shapes lights up at night. Behind him are the massive doors that we admired too.
